The Art of Social selling…I love you



Jonathan Betcher has written a most interesting arcticle, featured in Forbes Magazine based around the following academic research from The University of British Columbia:

The buyer seller relationship is MASSIVELY impacted and influenced by things which logically SHOULD NOT MATTER but seemingly do.

A shared Birthday.

A shared first name.

Being born in the same place.

A shared interest….and so on and so forth!

As stated by one of the professors:

Those incidental similarities can actually shape the situation in terms of your desire to buy and associate with the product or company, your attitude toward the product. It overflows onto the purchase experience — even though, rationally, it really shouldn’t.


So how can you use this in your marketing?

Find people who are like you…….they will naturally feel more inclined to do business with you. in online marketing do not be something that you are not. People will see right through you. Be authentic in your approach and your clients will love you for it. Look for clients in places you would be found. I.D is everything.

Listen before you try to sell. Let someone tell you about themselves, then if there is some common ground make sure that they are aware of it.
