When I was 21 years old I started in a very competitive sales environment and I was one of the only girls…boy did it take some work to win?? I was crazy with motivation and passion. I found this quote and it inspired me so much that I taped a copy to the front of my diary and looked at it hundreds of times a day…..it is still stuck on the diary now, 20 years later, dogeared and yellowing. It was the first and the best motivational quote I ever found and I am still thankful for it today and try to live my life by it’s ethos.
.Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back– Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.William Huchison Murray or GoetheThis is an amazing summary of truth for me. It is true that when you give 100% to something, the universe give you all that back and more. Opportunities will only present themselves as such if you are ready to receive them. I have spent my life trying to be as open as I can to all things coming into it. I have invited in as much positivity as I can by giving out as much of the same as I can muster.There is some debate over who to attribute this poem to, WH Murray or Goethe. see the quote and explanation below. But I DO know that if studied and absorbed properly in can be a game changer for the right person at the right time….so is it your right time?
This altercation’s gone on long enough,
it’s time I saw some action too!
While you are polishing fine phrases
something useful could be going on.
What’s the point of harping on the proper mood?
It never comes to him who shilly-shallies.
Since you pretend to be a poet,
make poetry obey your will.
You know that what we need
is a strong drink to gulp down fast,
so set to work and brew it!
What’s left undone today, is still not done tomorrow;
to every day there is a use and purpose;
let Resoluteness promptly seize
the forelock of the Possible,
and then, reluctant to let go again,
she’s forced to carry on and be productive.Stuart Atkins’ translation (Goethe. The Collected Works. Vol. 2: Faust I & II. Ed. and trans. Stuart Atkins. Princeton, NJ: Princeton UP, 1994. 7)So it would appear that Goethe did NOT say these words, but they were instead the gorgeous and inspired interpretation by the poet and Mountaineer W.H. Murray.The quote above, however has its own beauty…clever bloke Goethe!! Now to apply it to all our lives..who coming?
